Defender DRL Not Working?

The signature daytime running light on the 2020–2025 Land Rover Defender
L663 can become dim, yellow, partially lit, or stop working completely.
This is not a bulb replacement. The DRL is sealed inside the headlight
assembly and depends on internal electronic and optical components.

The Defender DRL failure is usually caused by one of two areas:
1. DRL PCB / LED board failure
2. Light-guide tube damage or degradation
In some cases, one component is the issue. In other cases,
both are contributing to failure.

DRL PCB / LED Board Failure

Behind the Defender’s signature DRL is a dedicated PCB board with LEDs that power the daytime running light.

When this board fails, the DRL may become dim, uneven,
intermittent, discolored, or completely inoperative.

Once the headlight is opened, we replace the DRL PCB/LED board because it is a known failure point. This prevents leaving a weak component inside the assembly after the headlight has already been disassembled.

Light-Guide Tube Repair

The LED board creates the light, but the light-guide tube carries that light through the signature DRL shape.

If the tube becomes burnt, yellowed, or optically damaged, the DRL may still look dim or uneven even if the LED board is working.

There is no standard replacement part for this tube. At Vivid Headlight, we repair the light-guide tube when it is contributing to the failure.

Complete Defender DRL Repair

Defender DRL failure can be caused by the PCB board, the light-guide tube, or both.

That is why we treat the DRL as a system. Once the headlight is opened, the PCB/LED board is replaced, and the light-guide tube is inspected and repaired when needed.

The goal is not just to make the DRL turn on. The goal is to restore proper function and appearance while preserving the original headlight assembly when possible.
